Honorary Doctorate
Honorary Doctorate Programs (Hon.D. - Hon.PhD - Dr.hc)
An honorary doctorate is entirely legitimate and the title conferred may be used like any other. The degree is awarded to those who have demonstrated an
Honoris Causa, or cause to be honoured. For a "support honorarium" you may participate in our Honorary Doctorate Program. Many great universities award doctorates, honorary degrees only to a select group of distinguished individuals from many countries and varying but surely amazing walk of life.
The owner of an Honorary Doctorate is given the legal right
to use "Doctor" before his or her name.
Some Universities offer an Honorary Doctorate Program that provides opportunities for professionals to be considered for conferral of this honour. The honorary doctorate degree program is open for applications. The honorary doctorate degree is not an earned academic degree. It is a special honours diploma that is conferred upon those who have submitted an application for review and are found to have met all of the necessary criteria for such honour conferral.
It is not the Title that Honours the Man,
but the Man who Honours the Title.
To apply for the
Honorary Doctorate, applicants must meet these minimum criteria:
1) Have an earned education level degree.
2) Able to validate professional and career experiences after conferral of the education level degree.
3) Able to demonstrate significant contributions to one's profession and/or society.
4) Able to validate a significant number of years of experiences within one's profession.
The above are the minimum requirements for making application to the program.
Once your application is received, it will be scheduled for review by an academic committee made up of highly qualified faculty. All required credentials and validations must have been received before the application is reviewed. Full details as to the required documents are provided to applicants upon receipt of the official application.
Following the review, the honorary doctorate committee will make a recommendation to the administration to confer or not to confer the Honorary Doctorate Degree upon the applicant. Upon final approval by the college's Board of Trustees, the candidate for the honorary doctorate will make a contribution. This contribution will be shared with various philanthropic programs of the College including but not limited to:
- Scholarship Programs, where a student need only show financial need. Those who need and want an education will not be denied - we intend to help them if we can. However, without the funds, this program will not be able to exist.
- Community Work including: Counselling, therapy, and outreach/social work and alternative educational programs.
- Contributions to other worthwhile charitable organizations to benefit humanity.
- Other Goodwill Programs e.g., soup kitchens, half way houses, rehab programs, etc. and on the national and international levels.
- General Fund, University building fund, Philanthropy, scholarships etc.

Upon approval by the Board of Trustees and receipt of the contribution, the candidate will be conferred the Honorary Doctorate.
The degree may be as Honorary PhD for academics or as Hon. Doctor (e.g. Hon.D., Litt.D., L.H.D., L.L.D., D.Sc. or Dr.hc), depending on what the candidate qualifies for. Those conferred the honorary doctorate degree are provided with a diploma and official records of degree conferral.
