Institute of United Nations Studies
The Institute of United Nations Studies was established in the year 1969 as part of IFUNA, under the Chairmanship of Dr Nagendera Singh, ICS; then Judge International Court of Justice, and Mr A S Talwar, Addl Secretary General, IFUNA as Executive Secretary.
The objective of the Institute of UN Studies is to impart basic knowledge about United Nations and its Specialised Agencies. To develop awareness of the aims and ideals of the world body and to stimulate people's participation in its programmes, activities and achievements.
Institute conducts a six months correspondence course on UN and International Understanding. Various papers are introduced to impart knowledge about UN and its various Specialised Agencies. Its structure organization, aims and ideals as envisaged in its Charter. On successful completion of the Correspondence course, Diploma is awarded to successful students. The course received very high appreciation at the national and international forums and considered as unique of its kind. Secretary General World Federation of United Nations Associations commended it.
The diploma course (correspondence) on "UN and International Understanding" is popular in Asia, China, India, Europe, North & South America, Middle East, Africa and various parts of the world.

Students enrolling for this Course are from all walks of life such as teachers, doctors, businessmen, executives, engineers and advocates etc. This course is useful for people working in NGO's, Inter-governmental organizations, UN organizations and its affiliated bodies, government's organizations in various countries who are working for developmental activities. This course is recognized by Ministry of Higher Education and also Education Department of United Nations Organisation, Geneva, Switzerland. Various organizations in the different countries recognized this course for recruitment and also for promotion for higher posts. Eligibility for Admission
All those interested in acquiring detailed knowledge of the constitutional set up and working of United Nations and its Specialised Agencies are welcome for admission. The minimum qualification for admission is that candidate should have passed Matrix or 10+2 or equivalent examination.
Fees
Fees for course upon request. Payments due on admission and registration, and course material will be dispatched to candidates' registered address.
Duration of Course
The duration of the Course is six months. The instructions are given through correspondence. The course covers six papers. Lessons are sent to the students by post. It is optional for the students to complete the course in six months, extendable to one year in special circumstances, for very specific reasons, for which he/she had to apply to seek permission giving reasons. Student may be permitted to complete the course in less than six months in special circumstances. The Course commences on the first of every month.
Course Structure
Candidates are required to write critical essays to indicate in-depth study of six papers, of which three are compulsory and the remaining three papers can be chosen from the list of optional papers.
The Course material on compulsory papers and optional papers, selected, shall be supplied so that student is able to cover the course within a period of six moths.
Foundation Course (compulsory)
Courses are as follows:
- Historical Development and Origin of the United Nations
- The salient features of the United Nations Charter
- The General Assembly - its constitution and its functions
- The Security Council - its constitution and its functions
- The role of United Nations Development Programmes and United Nations Information Centre
- A general survey of the Specialised Agencies of the United Nations and their role in the present day context.

A student have prepare answers in English. Each paper has 100 marks and the total marks are 600. The student requires 60% marks for the first division, 50% for second division and 40% for pass.
Assessment
The assessment of the answer paper is based on the understanding and their relevance to the subject.
Diploma
The answer papers should be submitted well before the end of semester, these shall be declared within a month after the end of semester, subject to submission of Answer Papers. Diploma will be dispatched to successful Candidates.
